Geely sales remain robust despite holiday

Geely Automobile Holdings' sales advanced 24 percent to 110,243 vehicles in February despite the weeklong Chinese New Year holiday.

The gain was driven by sustained strong demand for four models the company developed on a new vehicle platform and launched in 2016.

Among the four models, the Boyue, Emgrand GS and the crossover version of the Vision combined to post sales of 41,497 last month.

Sales of the Emgrand GL compact sedan totaled 10,105.

The four models accounted for 47 percent of Geely’s sales last month.

In February, deliveries of the 01 compact crossover, the first vehicle under Geely’s newly created premium Lynk & CO brand, reached 4,012. It went on sale in December.

In January, Geely’s sales surged 51 percent from a year earlier to 155,089.

In the first two months, the company’s deliveries surged 38 percent year on year to 265,332 vehicles.

Geely will launch sales of the second model, another crossover, under the Lynk & CO brand later this month.

Geely, based in the east China city of Hangzhou, is a Hong Kong-listed subsidiary of Zhejiang Geely Holding Group. Geely Group also owns Volvo Car Corp.

After Zhejiang Geely purchased an 8.2 percent stake in Swedish heavy-duty truckmaker AB Volvo in December, Geely Group chairman Li Shufu acquired a 9.67 percent interest in Daimler AG in February.
