PSA sales remain in slump despite new crossover

PSA Peugeot Citroen hasn't been able to stabilize plunging sales in China this year with October deliveries slumping 25 percent to 41,149 vehicles.

The French automaker’s joint venture with Dongfeng Motor Co. sold 26,576 Peugeot models and 14,573 Citroen vehicles last month.

Dongfeng Peugeot Citroen Automobile Co. said deliveries in the first ten months plunged 40 percent to 276,300 vehicles.

October sales were weak despite the introduction of the Citroen C5 Aircross compact crossover, which went on sale in September.

Demand for crossovers and SUVs have remained robust in China. PSA is counting on the Aircross and Peugeot 5008 SUV -- which was launched in June -- to revive sales.

Dongfeng Peugeot Citroen, which is based in the central China city of Wuhan, assembles Peugeot and Citroen cars and light trucks.

PSA also runs a joint venture with state-owned Chinese automaker Changan Automobile Co. Changan PSA, located in the south China city of Shenzhen, builds Citroen DS models. The company hasn’t released DS sales for October.
