Japan's Big 3 rack up double-digit sales gains in July

Japan's three biggest automakers, which gained market share in the first half of the year, posted double-digit sales gains in China last month, largely behind new crossovers.

Honda Motor Co. said China deliveries rose 12 percent to 113,803 in July. The company’s China sales have advanced 18 percent to 757,970 year to date.

At Nissan Motor Co., July deliveries rose 14 percent to 104,794 light vehicles, with sales advancing 7.6 percent to 755,319 in the first seven months of the year.

Toyota Motor Corp.'s China sales grew 11 percent in July from a year earlier to 108,900 vehicles, following a 10-percent increase in June, the company reported on Wednesday.

Toyota's January-July sales in China totaled 732,900 vehicles, a 6.2-percent rise from the same period a year ago.

The Japanese company is on target to sell more than 1.21 million vehicles in China this year, compared with 1.2 million vehicles in 2016, a Toyota spokesman in Beijing said.
