NextEV to launch electric sports car in London

Chinese electric vehicle startup NextEV will unveil its first product, a high-performance electric car, in London this month.

The vehicle is scheduled to make its global debut at the Saatchi Gallery in London on November 21.

"With 1,360 horsepower, the supercar matches the performance of top hybrid supercars, such as the La Ferrari and McLaren P1," NextEV said in a statement Tuesday.

In 2014, NextEV was incorporated in Shangha with financial support from the founders of automotive websites Bitauto and autohome, and the e-commerce site JD.com.

Earlier this year, it signed up state-owned automaker Jianghuai Automobile Co. to assemble affordable EVs.

NextEV is one of several EV startups funded by major Internet companies in China.

Faraday Future, a U.S. company with financial backing from Chinese online video streaming site LeEco, plans to start building EVs at a plant under construction in Nevada, though the company is facing a cash squeeze.

China Future Mobility Corp., whose biggest investor is leading Chinese Internet company Tencent Holdings, plans to launch a self-driving connected electric car next year.
