China to build 500 campgrounds for RVs from 2016 to 2020
The Chinese government expects to attract private capital to build 500 campgrounds for RVs from 2016 to 2020, according to China's National Tourism Administration.
The move is part of the Chinese government's plan to boost recreational activities and aid the economy, the administration said on its website.
China has fewer than 30,000 RVs and no more than 500 campgrounds for such vehicles, according to the administration.
Demand for RVs is expected to rise rapidly as more Chinese families opt to drive their own vehicle when traveling.
SAIC Motor Corp., China's largest domestic automaker, is constructing a 1.7 billion yuan ($256 million) plant in eastern China's Jiangsu province to build RVs.
The factory in Liyang, Jiangsu, will produce up to 16,000 RVs a year when fully operational, the company said, without disclosing a timetable for the plant's construction.
