New Dell Factory Doubles Co.'s Capacity in China
Dell’s Chinese subsidiary opened its second factory in China on Tuesday
Dell’s Chinese subsidiary opened its second factory in China on Tuesday, doubling its manufacturing capacity there, the company said.
The new 55,000-square-meter factory joins an existing Dell plant in the southeastern port city of Xiamen that was?built in 1998. Unlike its predecessor, which produces Dell computers for domestic Chinese consumption, the second factory will serve customers in Japan, South Korea and Hong Kong.
China is Dell’s fifth-largest market, the company said, where it ranks third in overall computer sales, trailing Lenovo Group and Hewlett-Packard.
The company also plans to open a manufacturing plant in India later this year, but has provided no timetable for that.
