Continental invests 1.7 billion yuan to expand China tire plant
Continental AG has started expanding its tire plant in China with an investment of 250 million euros (1.7 billion yuan).
When completed in 2017, the expansion will boost annual output of the factory, in the east China city of Hefei, to 14 million tires, the German supplier said. This is the plant's second capacity expansion since it started production in 2011.
The factory has produced more than 10 million tires for cars and light trucks, according to Continental.
In May, Continental opened an r&d center for tires at the plant site to speed design of new summer and winter tires for China.
Aside from tires, Continental produces telematics, brakes, stability control systems, safety electronics and other components in China. The German supplier has 25 plants and 15 r&d centers in China, with a work force of more than 23,000 people.
