Mobile phone sales increased more than seven percent compared to the previous quarter, with total sales for the quarter being 22.38 million, according to the study. Of those, almost 21 million were phones for GSM cellular networks with the rest of the phones being for CDMA cellular networks, according to the report.

The study found that Nokia, Motorola, and Samsung are the leading cellular phone vendors, as they do in much of the rest of the world. All three saw their market share increase at the expense of domestic phone manufacturers such as ZTE, Hisense, and Huawei, Analysys said in a statement.

In a recent study, the company said that overall sale of cell phones in China was just under 79 million in 2005, which was a 7.72 percent increase compared to 2004. For the entire year, almost 27 percent of the phones sold for GSM systems, with Nokia's market share at just fewer than 27 percent. Motorola sold 13.3 percent of GSM phones and Samsung sold just over 10 percent. Samsung, however, dominated the much smaller CDMA phone market with a 31.2 percent market share, according to the previously-released study.
