Nexteer Automotive opens 4th plant in China
Nexteer Automotive, a former General Motors division that produces steering systems, opened its fourth factory in China.
The plant, in the southwest China city of Liuzhou, will produce electric-powered steering systems designed for the Chinese market.
The 10,000-square-meter factory is wholly owned by Nexteer.
The U.S. supplier said it chose Liuzhou for the city's pool of skilled workers and its proximity to customers such as SAIC-GM-Wuling.
Nexteer already has a plant in Liuzhou that employs 200 workers. The company expects to double its work force in that city by 2016.
State-owned Aviation Industry Corp. of China holds a controlling stake in Nexteer, which is listed on the Hong Kong stock exchange.
Nexteer operates 21 factories and five regional engineering centers worldwide. Global customers include BMW, Fiat Chrysler, Ford, General Motors, PSA Peugeot Citroen, Toyota and Volkswagen.
