Geely sales surge 47% in July on demand for compact sedans
Geely Automobile Holdings Ltd. says it sold 29,578 vehicles in China last month, a gain of 47 percent from the same month last year.
Sales rose on robust demand for Geely's EC7 compact sedan and a redesigned sedan dubbed the new Emgrand.
In July, combined sales of the EC7 and new Emgrand doubled from a year earlier to 11,373 vehicles.
Other Geely models performed well, too. Last month, sales of the Vision compact car and its upgraded version, the new Vision, totaled 5,579. That's more than five times the model's sales from a year earlier.
Deliveries of the GC9, a midsized sedan which went on sale in April, increased 16 percent from the previous month to 3,201.
By contrast, sales of its three compact SUVs -- the GX7, SX7 and GX9 -- dropped 12 percent year on year to 3,514 vehicles due to intensifying competition among Chinese brands.
Geely did not disclose sales of other models.
For the first seven months of this year, Geely's sales rose 36 percent year on year to 281,685 vehicles. The company aims to sell 450,000 vehicles this year.
Geely, headquartered in the east China city of Hangzhou, is a Hong Kong-listed subsidiary of Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co.
Geely Group also owns Volvo Car Corp.
