BYD, U.K. partner win contract to sell electric buses to London
BYD Co. and U.K. bus and coach producer Alexander Dennis Ltd. won a contract to supply electric buses for London's public transportation fleet.
Under the 19 million pound (184 million yuan) contract, the two companies will supply 51 single deck electric buses and related vehicle maintenance and services, BYD said.
BYD will supply the chassis, batteries and electric motors for the buses while ADL will provide the vehicle body and design services.
The vehicles will be added to London's bus fleet in August 2016.
BYD, a private company headquartered in the south China city of Shenzhen, is partly owned by U.S. billionaire Warren Buffett.
A leading manufacturer of EVs and plug-in hybrids in China, the company opened a bus factory in California last year to serve customers in the U.S., Canada and Latin America.
