Geely's China sales rise 22%, offsetting plunge in overseas volume
Geely Automobile Holdings sold 33,069 vehicles worldwide last month -- an increase of 6 percent year on year -- as strong demand in China made up for weaker results overseas.
In China, Geely's June sales jumped 22 percent to 31,168 units. But in foreign markets. Geely deliveries plunged 67 percent to 1,901 units. The company blamed a "challenging environment" in major export markets such as Russia and the Ukraine.
For the first six months, Geely Auto's sales surged 35 percent from the same period a year earlier to 252,107 vehicles. The company attributed the growth to robust domestic demand for two upgraded compact sedans, the Xindihao and the New Vision.
The company aims to sell 450,000 vehicles this year.
Geely Auto's corporate parent, Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co., also owns Volvo Car Corp.
