Ford opens 3rd engine plant in China
Jiangling Motors Corp., Ford Motor Co.'s commercial vehicle joint venture, opened an engine plant on Monday to build Ford's 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine as well as its own engines.
The $150 million (931 million yuan) plant, in the east China city of Nanchang, is the third engine plant Ford runs with its joint venture partners.
The factory will build as many as 200,000 engines each year, including 100,000 EcoBoost engines and 100,000 of Jiangling Motors' 1.5- and 1.8-liter turbocharged direct injection gasoline engines.
The EcoBoost engine will be installed in three Ford models built by Jiangling Motors: the Transit van, the Everest SUV and Tourneo multipurpose vehicle.
The 1.5- and 1.8-liter engines will be mounted in SUVs and pickups for Jiangling Motors' own brand.
In China, Ford has two other joint-venture engine plants.
The engine plant in the southwest China municipality of Chongqing supplies engines for Ford vehicles made by Changan Ford Automobile Co.
A factory in the east China city of Nanjing produces engines for Changan Ford as well as Changan Mazda Motor Corp., Mazda's passenger vehicle joint venture.
