BorgWarner produces turbo for Great Wall's new Haval H9 SUV
BorgWarner Inc. says the new Haval H9 SUV sports a turbocharger, engine timing chain and transfer case produced by the U.S. supplier.
The H9's turbocharged engine produces 218 hp and maximum torque of 324 newton-meters (239 pounds-feet).
In a written statement, BorgWarner said its factories in Ningbo and Beijing produce componentry for the H9, which was launched in November.
To comply with China's air emission standards, automakers are downsizing engines and adding turbochargers. By 2019, BorgWarner expects sales of turbochargers in China to total 8.6 million, up from 4.2 million in 2014.
Turbocharger suppliers are expanding to meet rising demand.
BorgWarner's Ningbo plant in east China's Zhejiang province manufactures as many as 1 million turbochargers annually. In September, the company opened a second turbo plant in Jiangsu province that will produce as many as 2 million units annually.
